  9. About Commander
  10. ---------------
  11. One of the drawbacks of many programs is the lack of a customizable
  12. user interface. Functions, such as ARexx scripting and plug-ins, often
  13. have to be started via file requesters or multi-level menus. This
  14. approach can slow down your workflow - and often hinder your creative
  15. energy.
  16.  
  17. ImageFX, for example, lacks a customizable (or updated) command
  18. interface. When new modules/hooks scripts are added to the program
  19. (home-made, pd, shareware, or commerical) you're required to select
  20. those functions through a file requester or other means. This can slow
  21. down the creative process. Commander is the solution to that problem.

  23. Features
  24. --------
  25. - Can control any program that has an ARexx command set. A "GENERIC"
  26.   demo is available to demonstrate Commander's capabilities regardless
  27.   of what application you want to use it with. If you have an
  28.   application that you would like to see Commander support for, please
  29.   let us know.

  31. - Commander is currently available for: ImageFX. See special features
  32.   below.

  34. - Extensive customization allows the user to design multiple
  35.   interfaces for all kinds of different approaches to working.
  36.   Just about everything is customizable, including: layout, fonts,
  37.   gadgets, colors, images, etc.
  38.  
  39. - Openable on any public screen. Can be run multiple times on the same
  40.   screen and/or on different screens, each with a different or same GUI.

  42. - Can control more than one application from one GUI.

  44. - GUIs are designed external to the main program. This minimizes memory
  45.   requirements and increases the interface speed.

  47. - Includes useful examples and tutorials to get you started. Example
  48.   files can be modified to meet your needs, or new interfaces can be
  49.   created.

  51. ImageFX Features
  52. ----------------
  53. - Works with any version of ImageFX under WB2.x or higher.

  55. - Full control of ImageFX via it's ARexx command set. Now you can have
  56.   immediate access to all those extra hooks and effects that aren't part
  57.   of the standard ImageFX GUI.

  59. - Commander can start automatically when ImageFX starts. Quitting
  60.   Commander can also quit ImageFX.

  62. - Can be run multiple times on different screens, for multiple
  63.   simultaneous iterations of ImageFX.

  66. What Will Commander Do?
  67. -----------------------
  68. Commander allows you to customize your own GUI for supported
  69. applications, giving you the ability to directly access your favourite
  70. ARexx commands, scripts, and plug-ins in a way that works best for you.

  72. If you use a large screen (1280x1024) you may wish to have numerous
  73. independently movable panels of grouped commands. If you use a smaller
  74. display (640x400) you may prefer to have a page flipping type
  75. interface. Or you may want to have multiple configurations for
  76. different kinds of workflow. Commander can do it all.

  78. What Won't Commander Do?
  79. ------------------------
  80. Commander won't help you to be creative, but it will help your creative
  81. flow by avoiding the hinderance of a cumbersome GUI.
